A rice transplanter is a machine designed to plant rice seedlings in paddy fields; it is a key piece of equipment for agricultural mechanization, aimed at improving both planting efficiency and quality. Modern models are categorized by seedling type-washed seedlings, seedlings with soil attached, or dual-purpose types-and are powered by either manual effort or engines.
These machines operate on the principle of sequentially picking seedling clusters and consist of components such as a seedling tray, a planting mechanism, and a float. Motorized models are equipped with 2.2–3 kW internal combustion engines; row spacing is adjustable between 165 and 400 mm, while plant spacing is controlled via an adjustment mechanism. Modern models feature BeiDou navigation for autonomous operation, increasing daily productivity by 10 *mu* (approx. 0.67 hectares) per unit and reducing labor requirements by 50%. High-speed transplanters achieve an operating efficiency 30 to 50 times that of manual labor, with government subsidies covering both purchase and operational costs. Future development focuses on optimizing seedling separation precision, ensuring compatibility with hybrid rice varieties, enhancing automation, and exploring multi-purpose use during the off-season.
